Eyebrow lift surgery
Eyebrow lift surgery – or sometimes simply called brow lift – is a cosmetic surgical procedure which aims to remove the signs of aging that appear above the eyes and in the forehead area. If you are in your 40’s or 50’s, you may have experienced persistent, deep wrinkles that unfortunately do not indicate a young skin. Furthermore, your eyebrows may have dropped down a little; this can cause an unnaturally tired or angry looking face. These phenomena are usually caused by common facial movements that accompany our everyday lives, and thus their effects on the skin are almost inevitable in the long run. However, the eyebrow lift procedure can help you look years younger by removing these unwanted and unsightly features
How it is done
The eyebrow lift procedure mainly concentrates on the forehead area. By removing excess tissue, and manipulating the muscles inside the forehead, the skin becomes tighter and much younger in appearance. In addition, due to the tension that is added by the procedure, the eyebrows are lifted upwards, removing the unnatural hooded look of the eyes, and the tired and angry expression resulting from the dropped eyebrows.
The surgery is performed under local anaesthesia with sedation, or under general anaesthesia.
The operation lasts for about 1-3 hours. There are basically two methods to perform an eyebrow lift:
- One is the classical method, which uses one continuous incision to do the job. The surgeon makes this incision from ear to ear following the hairline, so that the scar will be minimally visible after the healing period.
- The other method is the so-called endoscopic lift. With this technology, the surgeon makes several (between 3 and 5) separate short incisions. Then he uses these little openings to insert a scope, a camera device which resembles a pencil. This way, he can have a clear image of the tissues beneath the skin of the forehead, and is able to perform the surgery without much damage to the skin.
The healing period
The healing period after an eyebrow lift surgery depends on the type of technique used by the surgeon. If the classical lift was performed, the healing period is a little longer. In general, it can be said that the patients are able to return to work after 7-10 days of recovery. However, strenuous activities are unadvisable for a period of several weeks, and you should look out for too long exposure to sunlight. The healing period after an endoscopic eyebrow lift is shorter, due to the incisions being much smaller. Your doctor will advise you about the exact precautions you will have to take, and the exact amount of time you need to spend in recovery.
