Root Resection
Root resection is an endodontic type of surgical treatment which means the removing of one root of a multi-rooted tooth. Root resection procedure is different from the well known root canal procedure, where the nerves and blood vessels are removed. First the dentist treat patient’s tooth as a conventional root canal procedure, after that an incision is made into the gum to expose the roots, then a small tooth filling is placed and the gum are stitched back. While performing a root resection, the entire root is removed. When the healing period of the gum is over, patient will get a permanent dental filling or a crown.
