Tooth extraction
There are two types, simple and surgical tooth extraction. Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from the mouth. Extraction is needed for a wide variety of reasons, such as damaged tooth by decay or if the tooth has been broken. The dentists first try to fix the problematic tooth with fillings or crowns. Because of too much damage, extraction of the tooth is needed. In some cases the extraction of a healthy tooth might be necessary, such as premolars or wisdom teeth.
Wisdom tooth extraction
The most common reason why wisdom teeth extraction is needed is because the patient’s mouth is too small. Usually local anesthesia is enough to remove wisdom teeth, but in some cases intravenous sedation is recommended. Also if the wisdom tooth is impacted the oral surgeon or dentist will recommend wisdom tooth extraction, because it can damage nearby teeth, gums or even your bone structure. The dentist will open up the gum tissue and extract the tooth, sometimes before the removal, the tooth will be cut into small pieces, to make the procedure easier. After extraction, patients will need stitches at the treated area.
